SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT BOARD

MEETING MINUTES

                                                                                                                                    March 10, 2014

Chair Sorensen called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.

 

Present:           Jeff Dyer, Nancy Keoppen, Joe McClone, Don Morgan, Maryann Snider, Gene Sorensen, Fred Zaug, Ken Van Dyke, and Joyce Boyer

 

Also Present:   Roger Holman

 

Sorensen gave the open meeting statement.

 

Motion by Zaug, seconded by Keoppen to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by McClone, seconded by Keoppen to approve the February 10, 2014 minutes.  Motion carried.

 

Sorensen opened the meeting for public comment.  There was none.

 

There was no correspondence for Board action.

 

McClone, Zaug, Van Dyke and Boyer reported on the Wisconsin Integrated Resource Management Conference they attended on February 27th & 28th in Green Bay.  Track sessions included school milk carton recycling, taking on food waste, sustainability and recycling market issues.  Discussion occurred on milk carton recycling and the sustainability Business Councils Green Masters Program.  McClone recommended that the Green Masters Program be reviewed for possible inclusion in the County’s business grant program.  Holman stated he would put this on next month’s agenda for further discussion.

 

Holman updated the Board on the Town of Wyoming’s participation in the county-wide recycling program.  Holman reported he met with the Town Board, reviewed the history and future of the recycling program, and meetings to form recommendations for the future of the county-wide recycling program.

 

Holman handed out and reviewed the outline for the Waupaca County Municipal Recycling Program Planning. Representatives from all the collections programs have been invited to attend three planning meetings to form a recommendation to Waupaca County regarding the future of the county-wide program.  Mike Koles is facilitating the process, looking at history, laws, funding and options leading to a recommendation.  A fourth meeting will be held with all Committee representatives presenting the recommendations.  The SWMB study committee is participating in the process. 

 

Holman handed out and reviewed the Burning News Newsletter, Spring Yellow Flyer, Medication Collection program and the PTF brochure.

 

Holman reported that Krogwold, Bruneau and Joe Barden have completed the Hazardous Wopper refresher course required for the Hazardous Waste program.  The PTF is waiting for the ice to melt to access ice damage to the building, the replaced bobcat has been delivered, emergency fire warden training has been completed with Joe Barden being added, truck scale had to have ice removed due to erroneous weights and the PTF staff is looking forward to spring.

 

Holman reported the Management Team is working on Department Head evaluations, CIP and waiting for direction on the County Board Strategic Plan.

 

The next meeting was set for April 14, 2014 at 3:30 p.m.

 

Motion by Zaug, seconded by Van Dyke to adjourn.  Motion carried.
