MEETING MINUTES

 

June 14, 2012

Courthouse, Waupaca

 

Chair Esch called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.

 

Present:           Bob Cloud, Andy Carlin, Sue Weir, Mary Robbins, Annette Ziebell, Valerie Heise, Al Kraeger, John Witzeling, Bryant Esch, Greg Blonde, Roger Holman, Eric Halverson, and Nick Cluppert.

 

Esch gave the open meeting statement.

 

Motion by Robbins, seconded by Holman to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Robbins, seconded by Holman to approve the minutes of March 8, 2012.  Motion carried.

 

Esch opened the meeting for public comment.  There was none

 

Committee Member Reports:

 

Cloud updated the Committee on local news events.

 

Carlin reviewed a “Pre-disaster Mitigation Planning” brochure that is being used to help communities in the planning process.  The brochure was developed and will be distributed through a Haz-mat grant (FEMA)

 

Carlin reported watchers are monitoring community flow to determine what trucks are passing through the County, discussed an exercise at the Waupaca Airport, and updated the Committee on the tower projects.

 

Robbins stated that there were no problems with the recent elections.

 

Ziebell and Witzeling reported on the announced closing of the Churney/Kraft Foods business in Waupaca.  The closing will occur in 8-11 months and will result in 120 people losing their jobs.  Discussion followed on the impacts to the Waupaca area.

 

Holman updated the Committee on Solid Waste, Hazardous Waste, and Land & Water Dept. activities.

 

Halverson stated that Haz-mat has been quiet, reviewed new training, and discussed past spills.

 

Heise reported that RMC emergency room has a new manager, inventory has been completed on all Haz-mat supplies, and they are planning a search and rescue drill later this summer.

 

Kraeger discussed a number of cases and noted that August 17 has been set for the dedication of a statue honoring   Gerald  Mork.

 

Blonde stated that with the dry weather the pest problem is going up, leading to more pesticides being hauled on the roads.  Blonde reviewed the schedule for the County Board tour of Lakeview Manor and Turner Farm.  Discussion occurred on the impact of the Farm Tech Show scheduled for July 17-19 east of New London.

 

Cluppert updated the Committee on Red Cross activities, including receiving 5 bariatric cots and 100 special cots and are looking into a functional needs support trailer.

 

Esch reported that the Waupaca Foundry has a buyer and will again be known as the Waupaca Foundry.  Esch reviewed the activities at the Foundry including emergency response training regarding gas explosions.

 

The next meeting was set for Sept. 13 at 7:00 a.m.

 

Motion by Robbins, seconded by Kraeger to adjourn.  Motion carried.

 

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 a.m.
