LAW ENFORCEMENT MEETING

9 December 2014  

            The Waupaca County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 9:05 a.m. by Chairman Jonely. Members present: Supervisors Craig, Handrich, Johnson, and Wilfuer.  Others present: Sheriff Hardel, Chief Deputy Al Kraeger, Captain Rasmussen and Lt. Russell.

Chairman Jonely gave the opening meeting statement that this meeting and all other meetings of this Committee are open to the public. Proper notice has been posted and given to the press in accordance with Wisconsin Statutes so that the citizenry may be aware of the time, place and agenda of this meeting.

            Motion by Supervisor Johnson, seconded by Supervisor Wilfuer to approve the minutes of the November 4, 2014 meeting of the Law Enforcement Committee.  Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Motion by Supervisor Craig, seconded by Supervisor Handrich to approve the agenda. Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Motion by Supervisor Johnson, seconded by Supervisor Craig to approve the bills as presented.  Motion carried without a negative vote.  

            Chief Deputy Kraeger reported for the Communication Center that we will soon be fully staffed with two currently in training.

            Lt. Russell reported that Gregory Dey, Tara Przybylski and Anneta Jerabek have resigned.  Chris Roeske will soon be off training and put on a regular schedule.  Joe Christensen will be done with training this week.  Kim Pribyl will be starting January 2, 2015 and four background checks are currently being completed for prospective corrections officers.     

            Chief Deputy Kraeger reported for Cpt. Conat that there is currently one detective working exclusively on the Wally World shooting case.  Burglaries, sexual assaults and child abuse cases are abundant.  Two current patrol officers have accepted the positions of drug officers and will be full time in that capacity in March of 2015. 

            Cpt. Rasmussen reported on Patrol division statistics. Supervisor Handrich moved, Supervisor Wilfuer second to approve the report. Motion carried without a negative vote.  The patrol report was placed on file.  Patrol Officer Sara Besel is currently in training.  Background checks are being conducted on two new patrol officers, both of which will start January 1, 2015. 

            Sheriff’s Office report was presented by Chief Deputy Al Kraeger.  Motion to approve the report by Supervisor Wilfuer, second by Supervisor Handrich.  Motion carried without a negative vote.  The sheriff’s report was placed on file.

            Sheriff Hardel informed the committee that Corrections Officer Mike DeSantis will be moving to the new Corrections Sgt. Position on January 1, 2015.  Mobile Spillman has been approved in the 2015 budget and is currently being used in each squad.  A demonstration was given on the State Patrol Mach system.  Sheriff Hardel reported on the First Annual Shop-With-A-Cop program which was held on December 2, 2014.  Donated funds were used to take 35 children shopping, each with their own law enforcement officer. 

Supervisor Craig moved, second by Supervisor Wilfuer to adjourn at 10:12 a.m.  Motion carried.
