MINUTES

LAW ENFORCEMENT MEETING

                     8 July, 2014

            The Waupaca County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Jonely. Members present: Supervisors Craig, Johnson, Handrich and Wilfuer.  Others present: Sheriff Hardel, Chief Deputy Kraeger, Captains Rasmussen, Wilz, and Wogsland. 

Chairman Jonely gave the opening meeting statement that this meeting and all other meetings of this Committee are open to the public. Proper notice has been posted and given to the press in accordance with Wisconsin Statutes so that the citizenry may be aware of the time, place and agenda of this meeting.

            Motion by Supervisor Johnson, seconded by Supervisor Handrich to approve the minutes of the June 11, 2014 meeting of the Law Enforcement Committee.  Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Motion by Supervisor Craig, seconded by Supervisor Wilfuer to approve the agenda. Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Motion by Supervisor Craig, seconded by Supervisor Johnson to approve the bills as submitted. Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Cpt. Wilz reported in the Communication Center they have issues with the recording system.  On September 1 they will have a new trainee.

            Cpt. Wogsland reported the Jail Inspection Report has been completed and we are in compliance with only minor suggestions.  One officer, Lori Geyer, has resigned. They need five officers.

            Sheriff Hardel reported the Detective Division is very busy with sexual assaults, drugs, working on Wally World, and waiting on the DA for John Doe case.

            Cpt. Rasmussen reported on Patrol division statistics.  A new position will start September 1 and they will start a new eligibility list.  Supervisor Johnson moved, Supervisor Handrich second to approve the report.  Motion carried. 

            Sheriff’s Office report was presented by Chief Deputy Kraeger. Motion to approve the report by Supervisor Handrich, second by Supervisor Wilfuer.  Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Captain Conat joined the meeting at 9:49 a.m.  

            Sheriff Hardel informed the committee that the Medical Clerk will be an LTE with Lisa Stearns filling the position at $15 per hour with fewer hours than originally planned.  This position will be requested for full time next budget.  The dishwasher needs replacement in the jail.  Supervisor Johnson moved to spend up to $50,000 for a Hobart CLPS76e dishwasher that would include installation and additional welding.  Second by Supervisor Craig.  Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Supervisor Craig moved, Supervisor Handrich second to adjourn at 10:07 a.m.  Motion carried.
