LAW ENFORCEMENT MEETING

13 May 2014  

            The Waupaca County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Jonely. Members present: Supervisors Craig, Johnson, Handrich and Chair Koeppen.  Others present: Sheriff Hardel, Chief Deputy Kraeger, Captain’s Rasmussen, Conat, and Wogsland.  Supervisor Wilfuer was excused.

Chairman Jonely gave the opening meeting statement that this meeting and all other meetings of this Committee are open to the public. Proper notice has been posted and given to the press in accordance with Wisconsin Statutes so that the citizenry may be aware of the time, place and agenda of this meeting.

            Motion by Supervisor Johnson, seconded by Supervisor Handrich to approve the minutes of the April 8, 2014 meeting of the Law Enforcement Committee.  Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Motion by Supervisor Craig, seconded by Supervisor Johnson to approve the agenda. Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Motion by Supervisor Johnson, seconded by Supervisor Handrich to approve the bills as submitted. Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Sheriff Hardel reported there are three trainees in the Communication Center.

            Captain Wogsland reported the Matt Edwards has resigned, the nurse has handed in resignation, and they have purchased three restraint chairs along with padded helmets.

            Cpt. Conat reported the Detective Division is very busy with a sudden death, burglaries north of New London, and Human Services complaints weekly.

            Cpt. Rasmussen reported on Patrol division statistics.  They have finished an accident reconstruction report and have it over to the DA.  Supervisor Handrich moved, Supervisor Johnson second to approve the report.  Motion carried. 

            Sheriff’s Office report was presented by Chief Deputy Kraeger.  Motion to approve the report by Supervisor Johnson, second by Supervisor Handrich.  Motion carried without a negative vote.  

            Sheriff Hardel informed the committee the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle has arrived on May 2.   It cost $4300 to transport and we received 6 extra tires and rims and 2 twenty ton jacks. Heroin has become more prevalent in Waupaca County and full time officers will have to be hired to get this problem under control.  The Communication Center has to get through their training, the Jail has one opening and the Torch Run is June 5.

Supervisor Craig moved, Supervisor Johnson second to approve a Dance Hall Permit for Farmer Gene’s Campground.  Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Supervisor Craig moved, Supervisor Johnson second to adjourn at 10:10 a.m.  Motion carried.

            The Committee inspected the new Armored Vehicle in the parking lot.
