LAW ENFORCEMENT MEETING

11 February 2014

            The Waupaca County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Jonely. Members present: Supervisors  Craig, Johnson, Handrich, and  Aasen.  Others present: Sheriff Hardel, Chief Deputy Kraeger, Rasmussen, Russell, Aaron Barrett.

Chairman Jonely made the opening meeting statement that this meeting and all other meetings of this Committee are open to the public. Proper notice has been posted and given to the press in accordance with Wisconsin Statutes so that the citizenry may be aware of the time, place and agenda of this meeting.

No person from the public for input.

Lt Russell introduced Aaron Barrett a new Correction Officer to the Committee.

            Motion by Supervisor Handrich, seconded by Supervisor Aasen to approve the minutes of the January 7, 2014 meeting of the Law Enforcement Committee.  Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Motion by Supervisor Aasen, seconded by Supervisor Johnson to approve the agenda. Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Motion by Supervisor Aasen, seconded by Supervisor Craig to approve the bills as submitted. Motion carried without a negative vote.

            Sheriff Hardel reported that two telecommunicators have started with a third starting soon.  The committee was introduced to Curtis Floistad.

            Lt  Russell  reported they have 205 jail population with Portage County’s contract having started in January.  Officer Jarabek is off training.  Taser events were discussed.

            Sheriff Hardel reported there are many cases occupying the detective division-burglaries, child porn, sexual assaults, etc.

            Cpt. Rasmussen reported on Patrol division statistics.  There were many accidents with the snow and ice weather.  James Santiago is off training and Matt Whitaker will be on training. 

            Sheriff’s Office report was presented by Chief Deputy Kraeger.  Motion to approve the report by Supervisor Johnson, second by Supervisor Handrich.  Motion carried without a negative vote.  

            Sheriff Hardel informed the committee that he was at an informative conference concerning school shootings and teen suicides.  He will be attending the Badger State Sheriff conference in Madison this week.  Code Red will be presented to the full County Board.

Dance Hall permits approved were:  Clear Water Harbor, Chain O Lakes Bar and Grill, and Northland Ballroom.  Motion by Supervisor Craig, second by Supervisor Handrich to approve and carried without a negative vote.

Supervisor Aasen moved, Supervisor Johnson second to adjourn at 10:20 a.m.  Motion carried without a negative vote.
