IV. NUTRITION DIRECTOR REPORT – Christie Gonwa

A.      Weyauwega Site – The move from the American Legion to the new location at the First Presbyterian Church was made in late November. There were problems at the American Legion Building that could not be fixed. Participation at the Site has declined but we anticipate an increase as warmer weather arrives. Ice in the parking lot kept some from coming.  It was too cold for the ice to melt properly. There is a combined Open House/Birthday Party/Volunteer Appreciation celebration planned for Wednesday, April 16 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. All are invited.

B.      Caterer Changes – As of March 12, Bethany Home of Waupaca is no longer the contracted caterer fro Waupaca or Weyauwega.  Issues arose from inadequate food portions, not meeting the nutritional guidelines set forth in the contract, improper food temperatures and the safety of some of the meals. One meal had shards of bone with the pork chops. There has been a noticeable attendance decline at the Waupaca Site due to the food quality and quantity. Bethany was given a written 10 day notice to terminate the catering contract for Waupaca and Weyauwega. Lakeview Manor has assumed the contract effective March 12 with the same bid price given last year.

C.      Volunteer Criminal Background Checks– Previously only criminal background checks were approved to be done on guardians and those working directly with children. As of January 1, 2014 all new volunteers will be subject to an online criminal background check. Each record check is $10.

D.      Blood Spill Kits and First Aid Kits – All Nutrition Sites now have Blood Spill Kits and will be given First Aid Kits. Janet Reilly offered to have one of her nursing students train the Site Managers on the use of both kits.

V.         VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR REPORT – Kristine Wiegman

A.  Volunteer Recruitment and Needs – Ongoing effort for Home Delivered Meals Drivers & volunteers at the Sites.  Full page ad in the ADRC Connections and recruitment for the New London Site via the New London Chamber of Commerce. Waupaca County is not a member of any Chamber however, the City of New London is. Recruiting volunteers can be possible provided Kim Ebert is listed as the contact.

B.  Other Updates – National Volunteer Week is April 7-11. Each Site has a party planned for their volunteers. Kristine has cakes donated for 6 of the 7 sites. She is hoping to find a business to donate a cake for the Iola Site. Slight modifications to the celebration schedule: New London’s party will be Monday, April 14 as the Hortonville Jazz Band is not available the week prior. The band draws in the crowd. Weyauwega’s party is April 16 to incorporate the Open House & Birthday party. The Volunteer Recognition Picnic is set for Friday, September 19 from 11:00 – 1:00 at the Iola Old Car                           Show Grounds. Due to Kristine’s time constraints, soliciting for door prizes will be minimal. In addition to the Volunteer Coordinator position, Kristine touched on the upcoming Spring classes in Waupaca. Stepping On  at Riverside Medical Center March 18 – April 29, Living Well with Chronic Conditions April 10 – May 15 at the Waupaca Senior Center and Powerful Tools for Caregivers May 6 – June 10 at the Waupaca Senior Center. All workshops are free of charge. Minimum of 8 participants and a maximum of 16 participants. Theda Care is handling registration. Sandy Bostwick inquired about holding a Stepping On workshop this Spring at Iola Living Assistance if she could recruit participants. Kristine agreed to look at her calendar as well as ask Hannah Gutho if she was able to co-lead. Kristine will contact Sandy with the available dates and times.
