Public Comment

Carol Elvery was surprised to not see the discussion of the site manager’s not sharing hours to offset Joanne’s workload at the Waupaca Nutrition Site. Pat indicated this would be addressed in his Nutrition Director Report.

III.      Nutrition Director Report – Pat Enright

A.       Reviewed the January 24, 2012 Committee on Aging minutes.  In particular, we reviewed the section related to the request of this committee regarding providing more paid time to the Waupaca site by taking time away from the other sites.  Pat mentioned that he also discussed this with the site managers at the January 17, 2012 meeting.  Both of these groups were recommending against such a strategy.  Pat reminded committee members that site managers in New London and Clintonville are also shared by the city and that would further impact that very workable situation. The committee was also reminded that a couple of years ago when faced with funding problems that the decision made at that time was that all site managers would have the same hours.

There was further discussion about how we might be able to assist Joanne because of the unique workload required due to the number HDM and routes in Waupaca.  Judy met with Joanne to discuss her site manager responsibilities and she feels the paperwork is excessive even though it may be required. She asked about volunteers to help with those duties and that will be further explored. Pat will schedule a meeting with Kristine & Joanne to discuss possibilities of finding creative ways to assist Joanne. This will be reported at the next Nutrition Advisory Council meeting scheduled for June 13.

B.       NEW Curative will not be making a decision until early summer in regards to increasing the hours of the senior workers by way of reducing the number of participants in the program. Currently, they are working 16 hours a week.

C.       All site managers are to attend the half day Serve Safe training on April 10 held at the Courthouse. Key volunteers and senior workers are encouraged to attend.

D.       Mike Glasgow from GWAAR will conduct a Nutrition Program Assessment on May 30. He will be visiting a few Nutrition Sites which have yet to be determined. The plan is to visit every other year.

E.        Reviewed the Donation Notice poster. Recommendations included adding the senior dining apple “Add Life” logo, eliminating the words ‘Older Americans Act’ & in general using fewer words. Prefer the focus to be on the suggested donation amount and the actual cost of the meal.

IV.           Volunteer Coordinator report – Kristine Wiegman

A.       Since the December meeting, 10 new volunteers were recruited for the Nutrition Sites. Two of the volunteers are assisting with Home Delivered Meal re-assessments for Waupaca. There is an on-going effort to recruit as needs arise. Kristine uses many avenues such as the local papers, Chambers, church directories, area business newsletters & WDUX Breakfast Show. The site managers are aware that they can contact Kristine at any time with their needs. Kristine has approached the New London Chamber as to how they can partner in recruiting for Home Delivered Meal Drivers to deliver outside the New London city limits.  Laurie at the Chamber office requested that the information be put in writing & e-mailed when we are ready to do so.

B.       Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 16-20 at the Nutrition Sites. The theme is ‘Volunteers Shine!’ Kristine has secured donations of full sheet cakes for six of the Nutrition Sites (not Iola because they are the caterer for their site). This will allow the site managers to use the $50 budget for entertainment, prizes, etc. Kristine has also updated the volunteer application. Revised applications will be distributed at the March 20 site manager meeting.

V.                    Site & Committee Member Reports

                       A.  Sites:

Ø  Clintonville:  Anticipating the return of snowbirds to assist with home delivered meals. Dart ball team won against Marion on March 8. Very excited about the big win. Food has been great. Curative workers are still working 16 hours a week & doing a great job. Three people have signed up for Ms. Senior Clintonville Homemaker Pageant taking place on May 28. Hope to have eight candidates.

Ø  New London:  Congregate numbers are up. Steve & Mary’s have been wonderful especially with the recent snow day when Clintonville & Marion were closed but New London was open. ‘Strong Women’ classes are very successful in New London & Fremont. Classes are Monday & Saturday’s.

Ø  Weyauwega:  Snowbirds expected to return soon. Home delivered meal & congregate numbers are the same. There are two new site volunteers (Keith & Karen). They are working out just great.

Ø  Waupaca:  requested more black insulated delivery bags. Love the food from Lakeview.

Ø  Marion:  All is well. Dart ball tourney is March 15.

Ø  Manawa:  No report

Ø  Iola:  No report

B.       Committee News:

Reviewed the 2010 & 2011 meal stats.  Pat will discuss with the new DHHS Director, Chuck Price about the possibility of pursuing businesses for program donations to offset costs.

Steve Stead will look into AARP & how to get Waupaca County listed as a provider to seniors receiving meals.

Pat mentioned the Waupaca Senior Fair is April 25 at the Waupaca Rec Center. Caregiver Coalition will be presenting on various topics. Instead of hosting a separate Caregiver Conference, they will provide the educational component at events such as this.

VI.                  Aging Plan 2013-2015 Survey Development:

Pat distributed GWAAR community needs assessment survey. Goal is to distribute the survey to

Places where they will reach the senior population. Suggested ideas were libraries, churches, senior

centers, volunteer appreciation events, city/town meetings and during home delivered meal

assessments & re-assessments. Also discussion based on the hand out by Amy Ramsey was the

‘Modernization of Wisconsin’s Elderly Nutrition Program Project.’

VII.                Future Agenda Items:  None

VIII.               Adjourn: Motion made by Shirley, seconded by Steve. Motion carried. Adjourned at 2:15 pm.
