Minutes for April 24, 2014

 

 

1. 7:30 am called to order

 

2.  Roll Call:

Present: Connie Abert, Mary Lea St. Thomas, Greg Watling, Bill Lipschultz, Sherry Fisher, Terry Taylor, John Snider, D.A., Clif Morton, Kasey Kaepernick, Mary Anich, Joyce Boyer

Excused:  Mark Zachow, Mary Kay Pohlman

 

3. Open Meeting Statement was completed.

 

4. John Snider moved to approve the agenda, second by Bill Lipschultz, motion carried.

 

5. An apology was made for the misspelling of Kasey Kaepernick and John Nygren's names in the March minutes.  Mary Lea St. Thomas made a motion to accept the March meeting minutes, second by John Snider, motion carried.

 

6. The treasurer report is as follows:  Savings Account $1,242.34 and checking account $403.70.  Mary Lea St. Thomas made a motion to approve the treasurers report, second by John Snider, motion carried.

 

7. MOU - No discussion at this time.

 

8.  Educational Session Discussion: 

·         It was noted that powdered alcohol is being introduced and used in Wisconsin.

·         An information sheet was handed out regarding a seminar on Heroin in Wisconsin: How can researchers help to stop the epidemic?  The date is Tuesday, May 6 from 1 - 3:30 at CAIR at 2071 N Summit Avenue in Milwaukee.

·         Health First Wisconsin is sponsoring an Alliance for Wisconsin Youth program called Ready, Set, Go.  For more information contact Health First Wisconsin at 608-268-2620 or hfw@healthfirstwi.org.

·         Other suggestions for the educational session included heroin with Brad Dunlap presenting.  Mental Health with a presenter from Winnebago County Health. 

ACES presentation by Kasey Kaepernick.  Gateway drugs such as RX drug misuse to progression to heroin.  Also, an education program regarding broad opiate use with progression of use/abuse.  Education program will be held on a Thursday or Friday in November.   Attorney Forsythe will be contacted for the use of the Manawa Masonic Lodge for the meeting.  Connie will begin drafting a brochure for the event.

 

9.  Election/Nomination of Board Members: a committee for a nomination process for officers shall be created

 

10.  Motion was made by John Snider, second by Mary Lea St. Thomas that we accept Kasey Kaepernick and Joyce Boyer as new members, motion carried.

 

11.  Roundtable Sharing - Vicky Clausman, our new Waupaca County Judge will be invited to our next meeting.

Bill Lipschultz shared a local business man's wish to help children.  Bill has helped this gentleman to define his goal and be more specific in his method of help.  There is a coming together of local business people to serve as a founding committee to put into place a program that will help children who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to be included in various activities, sports, etc. Community involvement has been very good with more businesses, schools and community organizations becoming involved. 

 

12. John Snider made a motion to adjourn, second by Mary Lea St. Thomas, motion carried.  Adjourned at 8:34am.

 

 Next Meeting:  Wed., May 28th in the D.A. conference room/Courthouse at 7:30 am.
